My Unforgettable Cycling Adventure on EuroVelo Route 6: From Tuttlingen Towards Vienna
The Beginning of a Journey Full of Surprises
09.08.2022
Yesterday, my exciting trip began with a train ride from Basel via Singen to Tuttlingen, where I spent the night before setting off the next day on my cycling tour along the fascinating EuroVelo 6 (EV6) – the Atlantic–Black Sea route heading toward Vienna. But every journey comes with its unexpected twists and turns.

The Loss That Changed the Course
Already last night, as I got off the train in Tuttlingen, I was hit by the first setback: my bike helmet – an essential part of my gear – had been lost during the transfer in Singen. This small mishap set off a chain of events that would make my journey truly unforgettable.
Searching for a Replacement in Friedingen
My first attempt to find a replacement led me to stop in Friedingen, where, according to Google, there was a bike shop. But reality hit quickly: the shop was permanently closed. This experience reminded me once again that you can’t always blindly rely on Google Maps information.

A Ride Through the Picturesque Danube Valley
The disappointment in Friedingen didn’t stop me; I continued riding through the narrowing Danube Valley, enjoying views of castles and gorges, and taking pleasure in the well-maintained bike paths and surrounding nature.Yet the need for a helmet remained a constant thought in the back of my mind.

Luck Near Sigmaringen
Once I arrived in Sigmaringen, I tried my luck again. My destination was a bike shop that, according to Google Maps, was open. But once again, bad luck struck: it was closed due to illness.Nevertheless, just one village further, I finally found a shop that was open — and with it, the long-awaited helmet.

Reflection and Anticipation for the Stages Ahead
After this little adventure, the day was marked by both relief and exhaustion. I decided to ride back to Sigmaringen to spend the night there, so I could continue my journey the next day — with the hope of finding a helmet mount for my GoPro camera in Ulm.
This stage was more than just a physical journey – it was a journey of determination and enjoyment. Despite a few minor setbacks, I was able to fully appreciate the beautiful landscape and now look forward to taking on the next stage tomorrow.
